Routes around Gosport & Fareham

On 4 October, the society held an all day outing around the tram and bus routes of Gosport and Fareham. The event was prepared by Fred York who provided an illustrated written commentary. The main features were the former Provincial routes 17 to Wynton Way, 6 to Fareham and the West End routes 1,2 and 3. The termini of those routes were visited.

I
n the afternoon, the original tram route from Gosport ferry to Bury Cross 'The Wiltshire Lamb' was followed as far as possible because of so many road changes. After that, the summer open top route 10 to Stokes Bay was taken down Jellicoe Avenue followed by route 7 to Bridgemary via Elson. A summer Sundays only service 18 from Nobes Avenue to Knowle was taken as far as Hoeford. An hour's tour of Hoeford depot was taken at this point. A short trip on the 18 via Quay Street and Old Turnpike completed the outward journey and then we travelled back down Park Lane in the Cougar to Fareham Bus Station over former route 18.
